Henera, an incubator devoted to renewable energies

Backed byBIC de Montpellier and its partners EDFandSLB, the Henera incubator supports innovative startups involved with low-carbon energies, from production and storage, to distribution, control, and more.

Selected projects benefit from a 9-month program provided free of charge by BIC, EDF, and SLB.

The class of 2024 includes five projects assisted by Henera, starting in June 2024:

  • CO2 PULSE has developed a digital predictive decarbonization platform to reduce CO2 emissions in the supply chain.
  • E-ETHYLÈNE designs electrolysis solutions to produce ethylene from industrial CO2 emissions.
  • EVERWINDS has developed a digital platform to cost-effectively re-use equipment for all wind farms.
  • CELEST.SCIENCE  is developing a new generation of artificial intelligence to improve climate prediction, reduce exposure to climate risks, and help society adapt to climate change.
  • HUMUShas designed a system for producing heat by composting biomass.

MONTPELLIER MÉTROPOLE, A HUB FOR RENEWABLE ENERGIES

As the world fights against global warming and we seek to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, Montpellier Métropole remains committed to the energy transition and renewable energies.

After witnessing the emergence of the industry's pioneering companies thirty years ago, the region, which benefits from a powerful ecosystem, is now home to the head offices of several major groups in the renewable energy sector such as: QAIR, EDF RENOUVELABLES, TOTAL ENERGIES, ENGIE GREEN, and SLB.

In addition to their ongoing support for Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) and MedVallée sectors, metropolitan authorities today are actively involved in supporting and developing renewable energies, including biomass, wood, biofuels, biogas, wind energy, marine energies, geothermal energy, hydroelectricity, heat pumps, photovoltaic solar energy, thermal solar energy, and thermodynamic solar energy.

The first Renewable Energies Conference (Rencontre des ENR), held on June 20, 2024 as an initiative of Montpellier Metropole, offered an opportunity for more than a hundred renewable energy industry stakeholders to exchange ideas on a future renewable energy cluster.

RENEWABLE ENERGIES, A PROMISING SECTOR

In a global context of accelerating decarbonization of the economy, and with a six-fold increase in renewable energy jobs between 2021 and 2025, Montpellier occupies a key position at the crossroads of renewable energies.

A TALENTED ECOSYSTEM

Working together to preserve the environment and promote a sustainable future. The Montpellier metropolitan area is home to many major players who are committed to preserving the environment. This includes a wide range of competitive clusters, research centers, a university, and business networks, all contributing to the creation of a dynamic territorial ecosystem where research, innovation, and sustainable practices all flourish.

IMPACTFUL INITIATIVES

From lowering greenhouse gas emissions to reducing atmospheric pollutants, Montpellier Métropole is taking action to limit the carbon impact of its territory and reduce its vulnerability to climate change. In addition to implementing an ambitious policy to promote ecological transition, Montpellier Métropole is helping business and industry stakeholders engage in the process

Montpellier Métropole launched MedVallée, an excellence hub for global health, uniting the area’s three major excellence sectors: food/agronomy/agriculture, environment, and health. MedVallée unites researchers, academics, business stakeholders, entrepreneurs, institutions, and the general public, with the support of its co-founders. MedVallée is led jointly by Montpellier Métropole, the Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée Region, and the French government.
