In a context marked by ecological and energy transition, the Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole area is home to a powerful ecosystem specializing in the development of renewable energies. The local renewable energy sector includes activities involving biomass, wood, biofuels, biogas, wind power, marine energy, geothermal energy, hydroelectricity, heat pumps, as well as photovoltaic, solar thermal, and thermodynamic solar energy.

Following the First Renewable Energy Meetings, held in June 2024, Montpellier Métropole announced the creation of a renewable energy cluster at the Energaïa trade show on December 12 of that same year.

From lowering greenhouse gas emissions to reducing atmospheric pollutants, Montpellier Métropole is taking action to limit the carbon impact of its territory and reduce its vulnerability to climate change. In addition to implementing an ambitious policy to promote ecological transition, Montpellier Métropole is helping business and industry stakeholders engage in the process

Montpellier Métropole launched MedVallée, an excellence hub for global health, uniting the area’s three major excellence sectors: food/agronomy/agriculture, environment, and health. MedVallée unites researchers, academics, business stakeholders, entrepreneurs, institutions, and the general public, with the support of its co-founders. MedVallée is led jointly by Montpellier Métropole, the Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée Region, and the French government.
