After several years of joint effort, Montpellier University Hospital (CHU) inaugurates its Unique Biology Site. This major project includes a 20,000 m² building comprising 18 medical biology laboratories on seven floors, dedicated to innovation, research, and above all, patients.

The new “Prof. Arlette Serre” Unique Biology Site at the Montpellier University Hospital (CHU) covers 20,000 m² and is spread out over seven floors, five of which are entirely dedicated to technical activities. Inaugurated on June 13, 2025, with Michaël Delafosse in attendance, the new building is located near the clinical services department of the Arnaud de Villeneuve Hospital and the new medical school, and next to the academic research buildings of INSERM and CNRS on the health campus.
This location enables expertise from medical biology laboratories to be pooled together and represents a major step forward in the implementation of Montpellier University Hospital’s property and energy master plan.
The Unique Biology Site addresses multiple challenges and fosters regional cooperation, particularly among healthcare institutions, as well as with the Montpellier Cancer Institute.
It offers a state-of-the-art technical platform in all the disciplines it hosts, helping biology and anatomic pathology develop promising synergies in terms of care, teaching, and research, and improving the quality of life at work for the professionals practicing there.
This new building also accommodates collaborations between the public and private sectors to produce innovative solutions for patients and invent the medicine of tomorrow.
Innovative companies are located on the 5th floor of the Center for Resources and Innovation in Biology and Health (CRIBS), a unique and innovative 1,200 m² space co-financed by Montpellier Métropole in the amount of 900,000 € and also receiving financial support from the Occitanie Region and the French government.
